DESCRIPTION:Living cells exhibit complex dynamic behaviors such as locomoti
on\, division\, and force generation. I will discuss very simple physical m
odels for the self-organization of active matter that exhibit cell-like beh
aviors. Focussing on active droplets and active vesicles\, I will show that
simple physical mechanisms can give rise to spontaneous division. Furtherm
ore\, other behaviors often found in cells such as polarity establishment a
nd spontaneous movements can emerge in such active systems.
