About this Event
Living cells exhibit complex dynamic behaviors such as locomotion, division, and force generation. I will discuss very simple physical models for the self-organization of active matter that exhibit cell-like behaviors. Focussing on active droplets and active vesicles, I will show that simple physical mechanisms can give rise to spontaneous division. Furthermore, other behaviors often found in cells such as polarity establishment and spontaneous movements can emerge in such active systems.
