About this Event
Add to calendarJoin us on Wednesday, October 6 at 4:30pm ET for a Study Group with IOP Resident Fellow Speaker Sara Gideon.
Separation of Powers - Tribal, State and Federal Relations
For the last 12,000 years, Native American peoples have inhabited the land we now call Maine. Four tribes—the Maliseet, Micmac, Passamaquoddy and Penobscot, distinct and individually governed, are known collectively as the Wabanaki people. Together, they are working towards fairness and equality, including changing the interpretation of the 1980 Maine Indian Land Claims Act , which put the Wabanaki in a separate category from the other nearly 500 federally-recognized tribes across the country when it comes to sovereignty and the applicability of federal legislation.
Speaker Gideon will be joined by Ambassador Maulian Dana of the Penobscot Nation
You must register through the form and a limited number of seats will be allocated for in-person participation. We will notify you at noon the day of the study group via your Harvard email whether you will be joining in-person or via Zoom.
