David Dominique is an artist, composer, and journalist working in multiple genres and formats.

During the past year, Dominique has published a dozen pieces of journalism and media criticism with an emphasis on race, activism, policing, and Virginia politics. As a composer, he has released two critically acclaimed albums for jazz ensemble, including "Mask" (2018). In the summer of 2020, he took a spontaneous break from music to cover the Black Lives Matter movement in Richmond, Virgina; now, he is synthesizing the journalistic materials he gathered (interview audio, multimedia, editorial writings, and Black Liberation texts) to create an evening-length suite of works for electroacoustic jazz ensemble. Join him in a discussion of his project.

Dominique has received recent awards and fellowships from the Bogliasco Foundation, MacDowell, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, New Music USA, the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and Yaddo.
