About this Event
How does one plan and engineer the largest, most powerful, and most complex space telescope ever built? What insights might the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) yield on our fundamental understanding of the nature and evolution of the universe?
Come join STAHR as we host Dr. Jonathan P. Gardner ’86 on Thursday, April 29 at 8pm EDT! Dr. Gardner is the Deputy Senior Project Scientist for the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) and Chief of the Observational Cosmology Lab at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center. At Harvard, Dr. Gardner lived in Cabot House and graduated with an AB in Astronomy and Astrophysics in 1986.
The JWST is a joint NASA-ESA-CSA orbiting observatory that will succeed the Hubble Space Telescope and enable more powerful observation of the most distant objects in the universe. Since completing his Ph.D. on galactic evolution at the University of Hawaii, Dr. Gardner has worked the majority of his career at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, joining the JWST in 2002. As Chief of the Cosmology Lab, Dr. Gardner and his lab are studying and building future missions to investigate dark energy and inflation.
Come join us to learn about Dr. Gardner’s incredible journey at NASA and the wonders of the JWST!
