About this Event
Add to calendarSoutheast Asian Visibility Week is a collaborative effort to promote greater awareness of Southeast Asian culture, by exposing students of different identities to the cultures’ diversity through a series of events and activities. We hope to increase representation of Southeast Asian culture among campus activities, given that it has traditionally been overlooked or subsumed within broader Asian-American culture. Students of all identities and backgrounds are welcome to sign up for our diverse events we have planned that will give students the opportunity to get exposed to and explore Southeast Asian films, cuisine, literature, history, and other academic works. Below is a preview of events happening throughout the week. View the full schedule and description for each event here.
*The Welcoming Mixer does not require registration. Students of all identities and regardless of whether they sign up for other dates of events are welcome to join at the Mixer. Come to learn more about different Southeast Asian affinity groups on campus, how to get more involved, and meet amazing people! At the end of the mixer, we will leave some time to discuss intersectionality and solidarity through sharing resources and talking about issues affecting the Southeast Asian community.
Students can sign up for all or any event they would like to participate in, we recommend that students sign up for at least 2 events! Many events will involve supplementary materials (e.g. books and food) that will be given to participants for FREE on a first-come first-serve basis, so please sign up as soon as possible! Please register here (priority deadline January 3) if you are interested in participating in any of the events above.
