View map Add to calendarCo-led by dance/movement scholars and facilitators Dr. Eva Macias and Dr. Shoniqua Roach, this workshop mobilizes somatic sensual and Black sensual somatic-based practices (drawn from diverse dance traditions such as pole art, floor work, twerk, etc.) that engage the floor as an apparatus for creative self-expression and sensual unfolding. You will learn a series of foundational floor work movements and sequences and receive guided prompts to explore and deepen your sensual (self) connection.
Open to all Harvard students –all levels of experience, all bodies, and all abilities!
It’s recommended that students wear and/or bring long layers and other personal protective equipment–e.g., socks, leg warmers, knee pads– and a journal and water bottle.

ABOUT DR. EVA MACIAS
Eva (Amskapi Pikuni & A'aninin) is a dance maker, scholar, and dance/movement facilitator. Although trained in many forms and techniques, she primarily moves from Fancy Shawl, Pole dance, and modern/contemporary dance vocabularies. Eva holds a PhD in Critical Dance Studies, and BFA in Dance with a Modern emphasis. Her pole journey extends back to 2012 where she was immediately drawn to the creative and sensual possibilities of pole dance. Eva's pole training and experiences were shaped by many, including mentors Carmine Black and Marlo Fisken. In 2022, she obtained a Flow Movement Certification through the Floor Flow Teacher’s Training Program. Informed by her work and responsibilities in communities, Eva is committed to co-creating inclusive student-centered experiences that foster a sense of belonging.
ABOUT DR. SHONIQUA ROACH
Shoniqua is a queer black feminist writer, scholar, and movement artist. She has a wayward movement background—having trained in and across diverse styles such as Afro-Caribbean, Modern, Salsa, Twerk, and West African dance as well as Yoga—and holds a PhD in Performance Studies. Shoniqua began her pole journey in 2022. She was immediately inspired by how pole offers a structure of permission for creativity, transformation, sensuality and vitality. Shoniqua is committed to co-creating and cultivating inclusive, sensual learning spaces for diverse students to identify, hold and harness their movement potential on and off of the pole.
