About this Event
SEAS and HBS are pleased to host four leaders in Innovation and Entrepreneurship to speak about their perspectives and experiences. The series of four seminars will be held in SEC 6.301+6.302 and will be followed by an informal boxed lunch with an opportunity to chat with the speaker. Please RSVP if you intend to attend the after-seminar lunch session.
Why is entrepreneurship important? Is entrepreneurship all the same? Can it be taught? How does science influence the way companies are built and their capacity to innovate? In this seminar I will address these questions by going over a series of real-life episodes where scientific breakthroughs, innovative business strategies and creative investment models have led to learnings about the interplay between science and business, in fields ranging from drug development to sustainable seafood production. I will discuss how innovation can make a crucial difference on various aspects of a company’s progression, how geography and politics may influence the entrepreneurial capacity of individuals and groups, and how starting a company that is based on science may require skills and a mindset that are not necessarily the same as for other types of entrepreneurship. I will also examine how teaching may play a key role in turning scientific research into innovative entrepreneurial ventures, and how the practice of innovation may in turn influence teaching itself.
