About this Event
66 Garden St, Cambridge, MA 02138
https://ofa.fas.harvard.edu/danceJoin the artists of CONTRA-TIEMPO for a Rueda de Casino, an Afro-Cuban form of social dance rooted in the Cuban dance style known as casino.
Dancers and movement storytellers Jannet Galdamez and Ruby Morales will lead participants in this Cuban social dance style that forms the foundation of what many people outside of Cuba call “salsa.” Casino is the individual partner dance form and when done in a circle (or "rueda", which means "wheel" in spanish) with multiple couples and a caller who announces movements that the group performs in unison, it becomes Rueda de Casino.
Dancers frequently switch partners, creating a dynamic, playful, and highly collaborative experience. CONTRA-TIEMPO regularly uses Rueda as a tool to teach concrete skills of compassionate partnership, collaboration, eye contact, and taking responsibility for our decisions and impact on others.
All levels welcome– no previous dance experience necessary! Participants must be 18 years or older.
