Are you a college or master’s student considering a PhD in the humanities or social sciences? Join advanced graduate students as they share valuable tips and advice on applying for, surviving, and thriving in graduate school for those considering a PhD in the humanities or social sciences. Discover essential questions to ask yourself before committing to a PhD and learn how to position yourself for a successful career within or beyond academia.
Panelists:
- Sheza Alqera Atiq, PhD ’22, is a faculty member at the College, teaching expository writing at the Harvard Writing Program. She earned her Masters from Harvard Divinity School before transitioning to a PhD at the Harvard Near Eastern Studies department. Sheza is interested in comparative religion, spirituality, and literature.
- María Bovea-Pascual is a Ph.D. candidate in the department of Romance languages and literatures with a secondary field in Women, Gender, and Sexuality studies. She studies the emergence of new subjectivities in terms of gender and sexuality in contemporary literature and art.
- Divya Chandramouli, PhD ’23, graduated from the Kenneth C. Griffin Graduate School of Arts and Sciences with a PhD in South Asian Studies. Her research focused on the relationship between south Indian Tamil drama, film, and democratic politics. She is currently serving as the interim assistant director for the Mignone Center for Career Success.
- Manuel Meléndez-Sánchez ’11 is a Ph.D. candidate in the Government Department. Prior to and during grad school, he has also worked as a political risk and international development consultant. He graduated from Harvard College in 2011 and received a master’s degree from Oxford in 2017. He is originally from El Salvador.
