DESCRIPTION:The advent of exascale computing and the proliferation of artif
icial intelligence techniques are transforming the landscape of multi-physi
cs simulations. These developments enable the study of complex multi-physic
s problems with unprecedented fidelity and efficiency. But they also motiva
te new simulation methodologies to achieve these results. Heterogeneous arc
hitectures with throughput-optimized GPUs\, for example\, scale best with h
igher-order methods and matrix-free solvers for systems of partial differen
tial equations. Computationally expensive simulations can now be used in op
timization problems through coupling with automatic differentiation techniq
ues or creating surrogate AI models. This talk will explore various numeric
al methods and applications of multi-physics simulations\, ranging from dar
k matter cosmology to modeling turbulence to nuclear fusion. It will also d
iscuss challenges and opportunities associated with harnessing exascale com
puting and AI techniques in these domains. Ultimately\, this talk aims to p
rovide insights into the transformative potential of integrating exascale c
omputing and AI in advancing multi-physics simulations\, paving the way for
breakthroughs in scientific understanding and technological innovation\n\n
