Mark Errol’s wheel thrown and functional ceramics pulls from his work with textiles, printmaking and painting to address ideas of home and the concept of ownership. In this workshop, Errol will lead us in adding depth and complexity to ceramic surfaces while using low-tech and highly affordable materials. The first day of the workshop will feature demonstrations of his thrown and altered forms and an introduction to surface techniques such as incising, inlay and paper transfer methods. In the afternoon, participants will begin to prepare slip and underglaze-coated paper to be used the next day. On day two, demonstrations continue and participants will have the option of trying out techniques on pre-made, Cone 6 porcelain tiles or are welcome to bring 2-3 leather hard pieces with them to the workshop. Participants will be able to record the demonstrated techniques and have a reference for their own studio practice. Errol will also provide a visual presentation on the development of his work and influences.
