2021 Philip and Frances Hofer Lecture on the Art of the Book
As the pushback against stories that center on nonwhite characters continues to threaten the fabric of the American narrative, this lecture will serve as a reminder of why our stories truly matter.
Jacqueline Woodson is an internationally-acclaimed children's and young adult author with over eight million books in print. She has received more than 300 awards, including the National Book Award, four Newbery Honors, three Coretta Scott King medals, the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, and the Hans Christian Andersen Award. Her lecture is in conjunction with the library exhibition "Animals Are Us: Anthropomorphism in Children’s Literature; Celebrating the Peter J. Solomon Collection."
