About this EventAdd to calendar
Asian American/Asian International Students Support Group is offered by Wenhui Yang, LMHC, as a confidential and safe space to connect with other Asian undergrad and graduate students during these challenging times.
"I was once an international student myself and understand deeply the transition to academic life away from home and family of origin. I bring a culturally sensitive approach and welcome you to join this online support group. This group has now expanded to include Asian American students. " ~ Wenhui Yang
In this space, we will review and talk about concrete skills in navigating life in a new environment. Although there is no one way that fits all things, taking the time and space to attend your questions and needs is valued:
Through the group support we can brainstorm solutions together. Topics include, but are not limited to:
Adapting to cultural shock and reverse cultural shock
Making social connections and making new friends
Cultivating confidence and communication skills in second language
Managing academic pressures, stress management
Understanding the impact of ABCDG parenting style
Promoting growth mindset and positive psychology
Understanding the impact of model minority myth
Dealing with the stress that arises with visa status
Managing Anti-Asian racism
“I came to the Asian International Student Support Group as I was experiencing anxiety and depression because of COVID-19, racism, and family conflicts. This group helped me navigate through the challenges I had been facing as a Chinese student throughout my graduate school years. This space makes me feel less lonely and more at ease with the high-stress environment of Harvard. I highly recommend it to anyone who experiences similar issues -- it's the most valuable resource I have utilized at Harvard.”
Open to all registered Harvard students (undergrad, graduate, recent grads) who have paid the 2021-2022 Student Health Fee.
If you are interested, please email the group leader directly and include your Student ID number, which allows CAMHS to securely message the workshop/group zoom link.
