Learn the concepts, culture, and format of a freestyle dance battle in this introduction to the battle workshop. Freestyle dancer and veteran battle organizer Stiggity Stackz will introduce you to his internationally recognized Stackin’ Stylez battle format. You’ll learn core freestyle principles or concepts such as Sacred Geometry (exploring lines, angles, and intricate movements), Thread Thyself (moving through negative space), Fixed Points, and more, which guide dancers in improvisational movement as well as create a clear framework for judging across movement styles. Members from The Era Footwork Collective will provide an insight to what their battle sessions look like and the role it serves in developing the next generation of dancers. The workshop will close with an opt-in mini battle where all will have the opportunity to participate.

For all levels of experience and movement styles. Free and open to the public. Participants must be 18 years or older.

Co-presented by the OFA Dance Program and Learning from Performers
