Interested in how philanthropy shapes the provision of public goods in the United States? Wish to learn from cultural leaders and visit extraordinary museums in the nation’s capital? Apply to participate in a wintersession course on cultural philanthropy at Dumbarton Oaks, the Harvard research center, museum, and historic garden in Washington, DC. The ten-day course, now in its ninth year, runs from January 4th to January 13th, 2023. Through seminars and guest lectures with museum leaders and scholars of philanthropy, participants will engage with the history, impact, and ethics of giving, with a focus on the museum space. Daily museum visits will provide behind-the-scenes insight into the workings of cultural organizations and opportunities to explore careers in the sector. Applications are open on Dumbarton Oaks website and close on November 21st, 2022. This course is primarily directed to undergraduates, but graduate students are welcome to apply. Applicants should be prepared to submit (1) a résumé or CV and (2) a one-page statement detailing their interest in cultural philanthropy and how this program fits with their career goals and (3) one letter of recommendation. Housing, travel, and accommodations will be provided.
