About this Event
This virtual support group is created for graduate students who struggle with inner critical narratives of “not good enough.” As part of this process, you will learn to identify your inner critic or inner algorithms. We take a mindful self-compassion approach and learn about how your nervous system is responding to internal fears and threats and how to cope effectively.
It’s not your fault that you’re experiencing these thoughts and emotions! We are built to react in ways that serve self-preservation/protection and belonging. When you notice your algorithms and little inner critics roaming around, you can proactively transform the narratives in beneficial ways. Being with others is a great way to learn and see that you are not alone.
This confidential group addresses inner algorithms such as:
The approach I take involves the following steps that will be the basis for each week’s discussion.
E: Embody the Present Moment (body awareness, listening to body, understanding nervous system)
V: Validate Feelings (recognize thoughts, emotions, sensations as normal response to stress)
O: Open Your Heart (to inner parts, name them, befriend them, self-compassion education)
L: Love Your Inner Critic (resistance to self-compassion and how to continually practice courage, compassion, connection)
V: Making a Vow (committing to change; putting in joyful effort, identifying values, discovering purpose)
E: Get Energized (knowing how to keep balance and maintain harmony)
In essence these steps help you evolve your nervous system, transform the inner algorithms, and release the inner critics so they can create, play and live with ease and kindness.
Summer series (Tues 4pm): June 18 - July 23
