To Sing of Coal Towns Burning: Climate, Memory, and the Future of Latinx Energy Humanities

This talk examines speculative texts dealing with fossil fuel extraction—such as the Broadway musical Hadestown and Carmen Maria Machado’s graphic novel, The Low, Low Woods—as a way of beginning to think about how Latinx perspectives on climate and energy are reshaping American popular art in the 21st century.

This part is par of the Harvard Latinx Studies Seminar Series (HALATSS): events to strengthen the vibrant intellectual community at Harvard doing research on U.S. Latinx/e studies and populations, by providing a friendly forum to showcase work-in-progress for an interdisciplinary audience. Hosted by The Committee on Ethnicity, Migration,  Rights, Observatorio Cervantes at Harvard University, and the Latinx Studies Working Group at EMR.
