About this Event
5 Harvard Yard, Cambridge, MA 02138
WGS Chair Jocelyn Viterna is a sociologist who studies the legal and health repercussions of abortion criminalization in El Salvador. In addition to her research, she also writes amicus briefs for pregnancy-related trials, and leads Spanish-language training programs about gender discrimination in the judicial system for prosecutors, judges, and formerly incarcerated people. Her research in El Salvador offers insight into how the repeal of Roe v Wade will have consequences for pregnant people in the United States. (see article here). At the Exploring Fields of Study event, Jocelyn will discuss how a primary or secondary concentration in WGS can support students seeking to better understand—and change—the gender and sexuality systems of our world.
Please join Professor Viterna, student Lucy Tu, and the rest of the WGS community for lunch, discussion, and community. First-year students can count attendance at this event as part of the Exploring Fields of Study program. WGS advisors will be available to answer your questions.
