The workshop is open to the public and focuses broadly on the general theme of Reflections on Africa’s Political Economies and Cultures and their Global Implications. South African scholar and curator, Khanyisile Mbongwa, will present a paper and Peabody curator, Sarah Clunis, will moderate a discussion drawing on Mbongwa's current work.
The African Studies Workshop is designed to cultivate a spirit of engaged, constructive critique and inter-generational mentorship. To that end, it is run, simultaneously, as a graduate seminar, a professional apprenticeship for doctoral Africanists-in-training across the disciplines, and a laboratory for international scholarly exchange. Scholars are invited to introduce their papers briefly to be followed by a commentary presented by one of our participating faculty or students. The floor is then opened to all those present, under the moderation of the workshop chair.”
