This talk follows the remarkable career of Jacques de Gheyn II, a Flemish-born draughtsman and printmaker who arrived in the Northern Netherlands in the 1590s as part of a broader wave of artists fleeing war and upheaval in the south.

Looking at prints and drawings in the Art Study Center, we will explore what it took for artists to reinvent themselves in one of Europe’s most dynamic and rapidly changing art markets.

Led by:
Susanne Bartels, Stanley H. Durwood Foundation Curatorial Fellow, Division of European and American Art
