Deadline to register: September 19 at noon
Harvard undergraduate and graduate students, as well as faculty and staff, are invited to join renowned Puerto Rican artist Pedro Adorno Irizarry and the celebrated theater collective Agua, Sol y Sereno for a series of hands-on workshops culminating in a public performance at the Harvard Museum of Natural History and the Peabody Museum of Archaeology & Ethnology that is expected to attract 800+ visitors (visit ¡Celebremos Puerto Rico! webpage for event details).
Founded in 1993, Agua, Sol y Sereno is a dynamic theater collective celebrated for its deep social commitment. The group creates bold, participatory performances that blend popular and experimental forms—often featuring vibrant costumes, towering stilts, and iconic cabezudos (giant papier-mâché heads). At the heart of their community work is a constant dialogue between social reality and the inner poetry of the human spirit.
Work alongside members of Agua, Sol y Sereno, Harvard students, and community members from La Colaborativa (Chelsea), the Hyde Square Task Force (Boston), and Inquillinos Boricuas en Acción (Boston) to create an original piece that blends storytelling, painting, sketching, choreography, and prop making. Be inspired by Harvard museum collections, your lived experiences, and creative approaches to today’s climate challenges.
Sessions will be of interest to individuals who are broadly engaged with the performing and visual arts.
Participation Expectations
Join us for workshops from September 22–26 and perform on Saturday, September 27 at the Peabody Museum (11 Divinity Avenue, Cambridge).
We’re looking for a small group of committed collaborators to help create the performance throughout the week. We know it’s a time commitment, but we hope you can attend all five workshop days and the performances.
There will be a main performance on Saturday, September 27 and an optional performance on Sunday, September 28 at Boston City Hall Plaza.
