❄️Wintersession Research Retreat, designed for everyone interested in science research, whether you're just starting to explore your scientific interests or looking for a senior thesis lab (and everything in between). All sessions are on Zoom. Registration is required.
2025 Wintersession Research Retreat (Day 1, Monday, Jan 13): Finding a Lab & Making Contact // Register here.
The first day's theme starts from scratch and builds to finding labs and making contact with those researchers.
Topics to include: the role of research in an undergraduate degree, the university's research landscape, how to determine your own research interests and find labs in that area, how to make contact and prepare your professional materials (resume & cover letter) to be considered for a role in a lab.

The day's theme discusses funding sources available for undergraduate research and the range of options available for summer research, both at Harvard and beyond.
Topics to include: popular funding sources for undergraduate researchers, term-time versus summer funding, summer programs and research experiences at Harvard/not at Harvard, planning for summer applications.
2025 Wintersession Research Retreat (Day 3, Wednesday, Jan 15): Professional Writing & Joining a Workplace // Register here.
The day's theme discusses professional writing, which is one of the primary means of communication within labs and research programs. We'll also cover what joining a workplace is like, the specific features of a research lab, and advice for how to set yourself up for success when you're part of a lab for the first time.
Topics to include: tips for composing resumes/cvs, cover letters, personal statements and regular email/Slack/app correspondence with researchers; workplace and professional norms; personal organization; proactive behaviors; communication methods; relationship building; receiving feedback.
